The world's first Wi-Fi 6 TVs with 8K resolution - the latest Samsung QLED models with MediaTek chips
At the beginning of the year, Samsung introduced the new QLED 8K TVs of the Q900 and Q950 series at CES 2020, characterized by a bezel-less screen, 5.1-channel surround sound and many other innovations. Now MediaTek named them the world's first 8K TVs that support Wi-Fi 6. This was made possible thanks to a specialized chip from a Taiwanese company.
“Samsung's flagship TVs are the only 8K TVs in the world with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. They offer consumers a seamless entertainment environment, smoother streaming and games, and unlimited access to the Internet,” MediaTek said.
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless standard with higher bandwidth and more energy efficient, which is very useful for streaming services in 8K resolution. According to MediaTek, the company will continue to release new Wi-Fi 6-enabled chips targeting key markets including broadband, routers, consumer electronics, mobile phones, gaming systems and IoT.
According to Jerry Yu, senior vice president of MediaTek Corporate and head of the Intelligent Devices business group: “Samsung is MediaTek's long-standing strategic partner, and its consistent pursuit of innovation has enabled us to continue to market industry-leading chips such as the family Wi-Fi 6. Samsung is driving the growth of the high-end smart TV segment, and collaboration on Wi-Fi 6 and 8K is just the beginning to meet the strong global demand for advanced Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and solutions. ”
