It was expected that by the time the new Cascade Lake-X processors appeared, some of Intel partners would release new motherboard models. This was not necessary, but, as it is now known, new motherboards are still needed, since the processors of the new series support four PCI Express 3.0 lanes more than their predecessors. New "motherboards" are just needed to unlock this potential to the fullest. The TDP level and the number of cores have not increased, but this does not mean that the additional reserve for overclocking potential will interfere with the installation of the Cascade Lake-X processor in the LGA 2066 socket.

Assuming such a development, GIGABYTE Technology prepared, and this week introduced a whole selection of motherboards - 299X DESIGNARE 10G, X299X AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE and X299X AORUS MASTER. Letter “X” after the name of the system logic set should not confuse the buyer - this is the same Intel X299 chipset, just the amount of changes in the functionality of the boards themselves turned out to be sufficient for such a renaming. In general, it seems that the X299X series of video cards will be used by the company to make a separate profit with such a category of buyers as wealthy representatives of the creative professions related to video processing and computer graphics. It is not surprising that GIGABYTE even received a certificate of compatibility of its boards with professional-level graphics adapters NVIDIA Quadro.

The power subsystem is amplified to 16 phases, it is now able to withstand a load of up to 70 amperes. Two USB Type-C ports can not only support peripherals with a USB 3.2 interface, they can connect up to 6 devices with a Thunderbolt 3 interface, as well as monitors with a DisplayPort 1.2 interface. There is a dual network 10-gigabit network controller based on Intel X550-AT2. There is support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). The new series of boards increased the amount of supported RAM from 128 to 256 GB, although the number of DIMM slots is still equal to eight. The AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE and X299X DESIGNARE 10G X299X boards include the AORUS Gen4 AIC expansion card, which supports four M.2 SSDs with PCI Express x4 interface. Its equipment includes a separate fan, which allows you to organize an array of solid-state drives without risking their overheating. The start of sales of new motherboards is expected in the near future.
